Job Description

Administrative Assistant III

The Brand Inspection Division is responsible for inspecting all cattle, horses, mules, burros and alternative livestock when there is a change of ownership of the animals or they are transported over 75 miles from their home location, are transported to a location outside Colorado, or are transported to slaughter. In addition, the Division administers Colorado's approximately 32,000 registered livestock brands, licenses public livestock markets, certified feedlots and alternative livestock facilities, presides over the sale of stray livestock, compiles and distributes information concerning missing or stolen livestock, and collects brand inspection and other fees and assessments owed to the Division, the Colorado Beef Council, and the Colorado Horse Development Authority.

Major Objectives of the Position:

  • Reconciling and entering country inspection reports for four inspection areas and reconciling and entering sale barn reports for three public livestock markets.
  • Scanning documents to the Division's databases, responding to customer questions at the counter, on the telephone, and by email, and opening incoming mail.
  • Maintaining the Division's informational brochures concerning brands and branding, alternative livestock, and fence law issues.

This position understands and implements the OIT requirements for digital accessibility as appropriate for the role.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights:

Salary: Hourly $24.45 - $29.34 Annually $50,856.00 - $61,032.00

Minimum Qualification: Proven experience, knowledge, skills:

  • Three (3) years of high level experience in administrative support in an office setting OR
  • A combination of education and experience as administrative support in an office setting equal to three (3) years

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Administrative experience working for the State of Colorado.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be a resident of the state of Colorado at the time of application.

  • Knowledge of basic administrative duties
  • Excellent customer service skills, in person and over the phone
  • Proficient use of computer applications (MS Work, Excel, ect) and Google Docs
  • Ability to write detail-oriented reports
  • Excellent communication skills; able to communicate effectively and articulately in writing and orally with diverse communities in all corners of the state.
  • Work well under pressure
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently.
