Dance Place is hiring!We are seeking a dynamic, motivated, and talented individual to join our team as the Creative Arts Program Assistant for our nationally recognized, cultural arts center in Washington, DC. This part-time, non-exempt position will support our passion for building a sustainable community of artists, audiences, and students who have been systemically excluded from opportunities by providing high-quality performances, commissions, training, and educational programs. This is a hybrid work opportunity with an hourly range of $20.00 - $22.00.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Creative Arts Program Assistant supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum designed for the Creative Arts Programs. This role assists with fostering educational partnerships and supporting Creative Arts Summer Camp activities during the summer season. As a part-time position, the Creative Arts Program Assistant plays a vital role in the Education department's After-School and Teen Leadership programs. The regular work schedule for this role is 20.0 hours per week. During the summer season, the Creative Arts Program Assistant will work 37.5 hours per week to execute Summer Camp duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

At a minimum, theCreative Arts Program Assistantrole will be responsible for successfully carrying out the following essential functions and duties:

Creative Arts After-School and Teen Leadership Programs

  • Develop and execute daily lesson plans in collaboration with colleagues and direct reports, adhering to the established curriculum.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness using designated assessment tools, such as evaluations and attendance records.
  • Maintain meticulous records of program data for reporting purposes, including monthly entries into the Development Report.
  • Foster coordination with other Dance Place departments, facilitating the exchange of data, program information, and reports.

Creative Arts Summer Camp Assistance

  • Collaborate with the Education Director to execute the daily and weekly tasks of the program, such as lunch distribution, attendance, field trips, performance preparation, and family communication.
  • Oversee the activities of Summer Camp staff and teaching artists.
  • Collaborate with the Education Director to manage the program budget.

Meetings and Professional Development

  • Attend weekly staff meetings and bi-weekly Education Department Meetings.
  • Participate in all required Education Department training and professional development opportunities.

Financial Management

  • Organize and oversee monthly tuition payments, including billing and payment tracking.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of all payments, directing them to the Finance & Operations Manager.
  • Monitor and manage all scholarship programs in close collaboration with the Creative Arts Program Manager.

Collaboration and Space Management

  • Collaborate closely with the Creative Arts Program Manager to identify areas of program overlap and synergy in the Creative Arts Programs.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of the CEC (Creative Education Center) and Teen Leadership (101) space, overseeing maintenance as necessary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE AND OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:

High school diploma is required.

Experience:

Minimum of 1-3 years ofrelevant experience in coordinating youth-focused programs in an educational, nonprofit, or arts-based setting is required.

Other Necessary Skills and Abilities:

  • A demonstrated commitment to accessible arts education programming.
  • Exceptional project management skills to ensure arts education programming remains within scheduling timelines and budgetary limits.
  • Ability to regularly demonstrate strong self-motivation, strategic thinking, and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work seamlessly across various departmental groups.

Computer/Technology Skills:

Proficient with Google Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Gmail),Microsoft Office products,or similar web applications for day-to-day office administration tasks.

Physical Demands:

This position requires the ability to sit and stand for prolonged times; walking moderate distances; frequently lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs.; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch; frequently communicate verbally with others; viewing a computer screen for prolonged periods; and repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers due to typing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Our staff is diverse, small, lively, and highly collaborative. We have frequent interactions with visiting teachers, artists, and students of all ages. While some of Dance Place staff currently work a hybrid schedule, splitting time between our main office in Washington, DC, and remote work, theCreative Arts Program Assistantis an on-site position. Due to the in-person aspects of the position, all employees are required to adhere to Dance Places current COVID-19 policy.
