Overview A busy international family in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, are seeking a flexible manny or nanny for their 2 children, aged 5 and 10 years. This is a warm, kind, casual, and respectful household. The schedule can be flexible to suit the perfect candidate, though ideally their needs fall between 3pm and 9:30pm during the week (on occasion there may be a need to assist with the morning routine with plenty of notice e.g. if the parents are traveling) and any availability to work on weekends is a huge plus, even if only occasionally. That might mean that candidates work 4 week days and 1 weekend day, or 3 week days and a full weekend, or 5 week days and occasional weekend assistance - most any combination can be discussed as their priority is finding a candidate who can mesh with their family dynamic. And the family are happy to respectfully provide the candidate with their schedule at least 1 week in advance. This is an English (American)/ Mandarin/ Danish-speaking household, and the family have a Mandarin-speaking nanny who has been with them since the children were born. For this reason, Mandarin language skills would be a huge plus, but are not essential. Both children attend the same Montessori school full-time, which is only 15 minute walk from the family’s home, and they each participate in different activities after school, such as tennis, swimming, gymnastics, piano, art etc. Candidates will need to be able assist with drop off/ pick up at these activities, so being comfortable driving is a must (the family will provide a car). Being comfortable riding an electric bike is also essential, since this is how the parents do school drop off/pick up. Wherever possible, the parents like to be present at drop off and pick up, and they try to play an active role in the children’s school community. Their eldest has ADHD (mild and high functioning), so experience navigating this would be a huge plus. An educational background and/ or solid understanding of Early Childhood Education is also preferred, since their youngest would benefit from more 1-1- assistance with reading, writing, and building a strong foundation for preschool/ future learning etc. Both parents have demanding careers, though like to be as hands on as possible when they are able. One parent works in the music industry and while there is no prerequisite for the candidate to join them with the children on tour (since they already have a few individuals who are happy to do this), they would be extremely receptive to candidates doing so once in a while, being cogniscent of the fact that most of their time will be spent autonomously with the children (and only limited time with the parent touring), so planning activities ahead of time in the relevant location is essential. Again, this is not a key component of the role if candidates are not comfortable - the family would prefer to prioritize other items over this. Travel more generally, on the other hand, is a key component of the role, so candidates must be open to joining them both domestically and internationally (though they do have a nanny in Europe for international trips if the candidate is not comfortable accompanying them abroad for whatever reason). It’s very important to the parents that the children never treat the nanny or any other staff member like they work for the children - there is no hierarchy in this household and the children are being raised to respect everyone (no matter their title), pick up after themselves, tidy their own rooms, put their own clothes in the laundry basket, maintain their own toys, and practice self care. Responsibilities School and activity drop off/pick up (more frequently pick up than drop off for school) Help instill structure into the children’s busy daily lives, fostering a more harmonious existence for everyone Keep on top of the children’s schedules - the family welcomes the use of organization apps or other organizational ideas the candidate may want to suggest (currently they just use Google Calendar) Encourage the children to be respectful and pick up after themselves - this should not be the role of the nanny Plan educationally stimulating and age-appropriate activities for the children, especially on the weekends/ when they are off school Travel with the family both domestically and internationally (if candidates do not wish to travel internationally they have a nanny in Europe who can do this). If candidates are required to share a room with the children they will be paid 24/7. Join the family on tour on occasion if this appeals to the candidate Prepare simple meals for the children only Qualifications At least 5 years’ experience working in the context of a professional manny/ nanny An educational background/ solid understanding of ECE Experience working with children with ADHD is a huge plus Prior experience and willingness to travel the family (domestic and international) Willingness to take the children to various legs of the parent’s music tour is a huge plus (but not essential) Ability to work weekends a huge plus, when required Ability to speak Mandarin/ Danish is a huge plus Interest in sports/ music (specifically the piano) is a huge plus Requirements US passport, Green Card or EAC Must be CPR certified (or willing to renew) Be comfortable riding an electric bike Have a clean driving record and current license (and being comfortable driving in the City) Salary and Benefits $45-50++/ hour (open for the perfect candidate) + all industry standard benefits + healthcare reimbursement British American Household Staffing
