Senior Property Accountant - We are currently partnering with a property management company in the west metro, in search of a Sr. Property Accountant. This position is on-site. Local candidates only please.

Position Summary

The Senior Property Accountant is responsible for the full-cycle accounting of a portfolio of commercial, retail, and warehouse properties. This role will oversee all accounting functions related to property operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, and support ownership with strategic financial insights. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a small-company environment where they can wear multiple hats.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle accounting for assigned properties, including journal entries, general ledger, and reconciliations.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Record tenant billings, lease charges, escalations, and recoveries (CAM, taxes, insurance, utilities).
  • Monitor cash flow, prepare bank reconciliations, and manage intercompany transactions.
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules and support capital project accounting.
  • Partner with property managers to review operating results, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Prepare annual operating budgets and support reforecasting efforts.
  • Respond to tenant inquiries regarding billings, statements, and lease-related charges.
  • Support external audits, tax preparation, and lender compliance reporting.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline accounting operations.
  • Assist leadership with ad hoc reporting, analysis, and special projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience; property accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and property management accounting (CAM reconciliations, lease accounting, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Yardi accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to thrive in a small-company setting, working independently and managing multiple priorities.
