Job Title: Senior Automotive Specialist for Diesel Generator Maintenance Position Type: Maintenance / Sr Automotive Spec Diesel Generator Maint Date Posted: 2/6/2025 Location: MAINTENANCE/CP&C Job Summary The Senior Automotive Specialist performs maintenance, diagnoses mechanical problems, and repairs motorized and mechanical equipment and vehicles for the Anchorage School District. Employees work a 4/10 schedule with weekends and holidays off. The district offers paid leave and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, HSA, FSA, and life insurance. The position is part of the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS). Job Requirements High school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in a GED program. At least four years of recent experience in heavy equipment, light vehicle, or support equipment repair. Experience with preventive maintenance of emergency diesel generators. Valid Alaska Class A commercial driver’s license. Obtain one ASE certification in automotive or medium/heavy truck repair within the probation period and a second within 12 months of hire. Essential Job Functions Interpret and diagnose mechanical issues in motorized and non-motorized equipment. Operate heavy equipment and perform major overhauls on engines, transmissions, transfer cases, and differentials, including tune-ups, electronic fuel management, brakes, and wheel bearings. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical problems in various equipment including trucks, mowers, and tractors. Perform diagnostics and repairs on electrical systems, including diesel fuel management, electronic transmissions, starting and charging systems, lighting, pneumatic, hydraulic, and other electronics. Conduct preventive maintenance on emergency diesel generators and mechanical systems such as engines, transmissions, differentials, air brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Coordinate shutdown and restart of emergency generators with facility leadership. Rebuild small engines and power tools, and repair carburetors, fuel pumps, starters, alternators, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems. Perform tire and brake repairs, service calls, and road tests. May include body work, painting, metal straightening, and glass repairs. Perform welding and cutting in vehicle and equipment maintenance. Work shifts that may change and sometimes without supervision. Maintain records of parts, supplies, and reports. Perform vehicle retrieval and field service calls. Assist in yard and shop maintenance. Establish and maintain effective working relationships within safety procedures. Physical/Mental Demands Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Visual and manual dexterity needed. Ability to lift less than 40 lbs, communicate effectively, and handle stress in a diverse environment. Work Environment Work is in a professional, clean environment with diverse personnel.
