Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry/Step Down position requiring strong cardiac and telemetry skills, BLS/ACLS, and Epic experience.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a 44-bed intermediate cardiac stepdown unit within a hospital setting
• Fast-paced environment with high patient turnover
• Patient population includes post-op cardiac surgeries (CABG/Valve, thoracotomy), vascular cases, arrhythmia, CHF, post-procedure cath, pacemaker, defibrillator placements, ablations, and medical-surgical overflow patients (e.g., detox, DKA, COPD exacerbation, respiratory failure)
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4
• Night shifts are 12 hours, 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
• Required to work every other weekend and every other holiday
• Floating to all inpatient units as needed
• No on-call or call-back requirements for scheduled shifts
• Uses Epic EMR, with recent Epic charting experience required
• Responsibilities include independent management of cardiac stepdown patients, including those requiring advanced cardiac drips and post-surgical monitoring
• Must be able to manage change and work independently in a dynamic environment
• Social and resilient personality traits desired
• Scrub color is flexible; any color is acceptable
• Holiday coverage is required for every other holiday
• Travelers may be placed on call during low census but are eligible for call back pay if needed

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Must pass an EKG test during the first week of hire
• Minimum 1 year recent strong cardiac experience in a Cardiac SDU, Intermediate Cardiac, or Cardiac ICU setting
• Minimum 2 years recent experience in IMC, PCU, or Telemetry units
• Experience with Amiodarone, Cardizem, and Nitro drips is mandatory
• At least one completed travel assignment required
• At least one year of recent Epic EMR charting experience
• Must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
