We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our dynamic healthcare team. The COTA will work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide therapeutic interventions and support to patients to improve their ability to perform daily activities. This role is crucial in helping individuals regain independence and enhance their quality of life.

Job Description

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) will be responsible for implementing treatment plans developed by the Occupational Therapist. This includes direct patient care, documentation, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The COTA will play a vital role in client skill acquisition and progress.

Job Duties

  • Assist the Occupational Therapist in providing skilled occupational therapy services to patients in various settings (e.g., inpatient, outpatient, home health, school).

  • Implement individualized treatment plans as directed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.

  • Educate patients and their families on therapeutic exercises, adaptive equipment, and compensatory strategies.

  • Monitor patient progress, document subjective and objective findings, and report changes in patient status to the supervising OT.

  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records, including daily notes, progress reports, and discharge summaries.

  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, nurses, and physicians, to ensure comprehensive patient care.

  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and in-service training sessions.

  • Adhere to all ethical and professional standards set forth by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and relevant state licensure boards.

  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.

  • Perform administrative tasks as needed to support the therapy department.

  • Compliance: Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including HIPAA.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program.

  • Current and active Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) licensure in the state(s) of hire.

  • Current certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • 1 years of experience as a COTA, preferably in early intervention and/or with children with autism.

  • Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry objects and perform other physical demands of the job.

  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit on the floor, kneel, crawl, squat, run or stand for extended periods of time

  • Ability to reach and hold objects

  • Ability to lift 30 pounds
